What do I want to be

Have you ever asked yourself the question: “What do I want to become?”. Do you want to be a police officer or a firefighter, a game designer or a musician, a veterinarian or a chef? Or maybe you already have an idea for your own business?

Every profession is important and is associated with the need for different knowledge, and skills, with different responsibilities, but also… income. If you find out more about them early on, this will help you make your first choice for the future.

Professions and Income

When setting goals for your future career, you should also consider the fact that different professions bring different incomes.

Not all professions can provide people with high incomes. In order to ensure that they can cover their basic needs – food, shelter, clothing, etc., in many countries, including Bulgaria, there is a certain minimum wage set by the state. This is the lowest amount that full-time employees can receive.

Some professions allow you to start working right after graduating from a vocational high school. But others require higher education.

Why does education matter?

Many studies show that people with higher education usually earn more than those without. The reason is that many of the better-paid professions require specialized knowledge and skills that are acquired at university.

But this does not mean that only higher education is important. There are also many professions that do not require it, but bring good incomes - as long as one is good at what he/she does and constantly evolves.

Since you are facing an important choice in life - where to continue your education after the 7th grade, you probably often discuss this issue with your parents. It is a good idea to think about what you like to do, what skills you have and want to develop, and what interests you. Also, whether you prefer to work for someone (to be an employee/worker) or have your own business. On the other hand, it is also important to consider whether the profession and career you are heading towards will be able to provide you with what you will need in the future.

To assess what career is right for you and where to continue your education, you can also consult a career consultant at the personal development support centre located in your area. He or she will help you learn more about your abilities and interests and build self-assessment and decision-making skills. These are very valuable because they will help you plan and manage your career throughout your working life.

It is important to know that the more knowledge and skills you have, the greater the chances of higher income. Do not forget - no matter what profession you choose, you should always learn and improve yourself, because today's life is very dynamic and in order for a person to be successful in their work, they must constantly update their knowledge and skills.

The professions we know today are changing and new ones are constantly appearing. So maybe one day you will work on something that doesn't exist yet!

It is likely that over time your interests and dreams will change, because you will learn more and more different things about the world and yourself. The most important thing is to believe in yourself and never stop learning!
